Competition:
Shell Eco-marathon is a unique competition that challenges students worldwide to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. With three annual events in Asia, America and Europe, student teams are brought to the track to compete based on the least fuel or equivalent energy consumed.
The competition is split into two categories. The Prototype class focuses on maximum efficiency, while passenger comfort takes a back seat. While the Urban Concept class encourages more practical designs.
Vehicles are also divided by energy type:
- Internal combustion engines include petrol, diesel, liquid fuel made from natural gas, and ethanol.
- Electric mobility category where vehicles are powered by hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-based batteries.
Alexandria university team was competing in the prototype/gasoline category.
